Mir sinn am Häerz vun der europäescher Demokratie. Mir kommen haut zesummen, fir eis gemeinsam Errongenschaften ze zelebréieren,
an eisen Engagement fir d‘Wäerter, déi eis zesumme bréngen, ze bekräftegen.
Et ass e Moment, an dem mer iwwer de remarkabele Fortschrëtt reflektéieren, dee mer gemeinsam erreecht hunn.
Iwwer d’Erausfuerderungen, déi mer zesumme gemeeschtert hunn.
An iwwer dat, wat eis nach undreift, hin zu engem méi staarken a solidareschen Europa.
Dear friends,
I stand before you with a profound sense of responsibility and optimism for the future of our Union.
74 years ago, on May 9 1950, Robert Schuman made his famous declaration.
An example of the power of words and ideas and an illustration of political courage and ambition.
The European project was launched with this declaration of less than 1000 words and this project stands as a testament to the enduring values of democracy,
peace, and solidarity that bind us together.
Since then, our union has expanded to encompass 27 countries, each contributing to our rich tapestry of diversity.
We have worked tirelessly to build bridges across borders, foster dialogue among diverse cultures, and uphold the fundamental rights
and freedoms of every European citizen.
For decades, we have enjoyed a lasting peace on our continent, built upon the foundations of democracy, unity, and solidarity.
These values define our European identity.
In a world where the unthinkable is no longer unimaginable, preserving our European values is paramount.
Yet, we must not forget that the journey toward European integration is ongoing.
Let me remind us on the remarkable progress made by the European Union over the past five years.
With unwavering solidarity, we have defended our values and secured vaccines for all European citizens.
Our support for Ukraine and our efforts to strengthen collective security underscore our commitment to peace
and stability.
Moreover, our ambitious climate laws and digital transition initiatives herald a brighter, more sustainable future for all Europeans.
These achievements were not without their challenges, but they stand as testament to our collective determination to deliver tangible benefits to our citizens.

Pourtant,alors que nous regardons vers l’avenir, nous sommes conscients des défis redoutables qui se dressent devant nous.
Plus que jamais, nous devons réaffirmer notre engagement envers la solidarité et la coopération, tant au sein de notre Union que sur la scène mondiale.
Depuis les dernières élections en 2019, le Parlement européen a adopté des législations révolutionnaires dans divers domaines.
De la promotion de la démocratie et du renforcement de la reprise économique après la récente crise à la lutte contre le changement climatique
et la promotion de la durabilité, et le renforcement de la dimension sociale, nos efforts ont été incessants.
Les prochaines élections offrent aux citoyens l’occasion de faire entendre leur voix et de demander des comptes aux représentants élus.
En seulement quelques semaines, entre le 6 et le 9 juin 2024, plus de 358 millions d’Européens participeront aux élections européennes, façonnant l’orientation future de notre Union.

Today, as you take part in the Europe Day celebrations, take a moment to reflect on the impact of the EU on your daily lives and consider the role you play in shaping its future.
By exercising your right to vote you are not only contributing to the democratic process but you are also helping to steer the direction of our Union.
Every vote counts, and we must not take Europe for granted.
Together, let us continue to strive for a Europe that is prosperous, inclusive, resilient and at peace with itself and the world.
